Q & A with Kaj Lindstrom

Tommi Makinen's former co-driver Kaj Lindstrom has switched to the seat alongside Kimi Raikkonen in the Ferrari star's Abarth Grande Punto

A 10-time veteran of Rally Finland, Lindstrom talks to AUTOSPORT about his 11th outing on his home round of the World Rally Championship.

Q. Where do you think you'll finish with Kimi Raikkonen on the next round of the World Rally Championship?

Kaj Lindstrom: We're not worried about the position. I have to remember, like you in the media have to remember that this is only his fourth ever rally - he's really junior in this part of the sport. Kimi is going to enjoy himself.

Q. What's the aim for the event?

KJ: We want to have three clean days with no problems, that's the only target we have set for ourselves.

Q. How much has he driven on gravel?

KJ: Not very much, we're testing for the first time today.

Q. How much of a test will he have?

KJ: We're doing a day and a half right now and then we'll do another two days closer to the event. The test is close to Jyvaskyla [the rally base] so it's going to be on roads similar to the event.

Q. What's going to be the biggest challenge for him?

KJ: I think the recce will be quite tough. Kimi's good at getting his notes down, but there are a lot of stages and a lot of kilometers to get through in two days; they're very long days. It's going to be busy and there's quite a lot of pressure in those two days.

Q. Anything else?

KJ: Probably the speed. These roads are so, so fast and we haven't done a high-speed rally before - and we all know what a high-speed rally Finland is. But then again, he's a very talented driver and we shouldn't forget that.
