Peugeot boss vows to fight back

Peugeot team boss Corrado Provera congratulated French rivals Citroen on its clean sweep of the podium on the Monte Carlo Rally yesterday (Sunday), but has vowed there will be a Peugeot fightback on the next round - in Sweden next month

Last year's world championship-winning 206 WRC has yet to conquer the Monte, although Marcus Gronholm led until hitting trouble on the second day, yet Citroen scored a one-two-three with Sebastien Loeb, Colin McRae and Carlos Sainz. Peugeot is already looking to the snow of Sweden to kick-start the team's title defence.

"First of all I would like to congratulate Citroen for achieving something in their first full season that we have not achieved in four years of trying," said the gracious Provera. "Obviously, we cannot be satisfied with our own result. But looking on the positive side, the cars were extremely reliable and fast in all conditions.

"Now we must look forward to the Swedish Rally. Because if there is a rule that says Peugeot must lose the Monte Carlo Rally for the fourth time in a row, then there has to be another one that says Peugeot must win Sweden for the fourth time in a row."
