Paviljonki Service A Notes

Marcus Gronholm (Peugeot) - rally leader: "I'm still not 100 percent confident with car on fast corners. SS3 was not that special a time. OK it was clear and the car is quite good after testing."

(Peugeot) - second, +03.1s: "I'm pushing no harder than normal. We're just more ready for this rally than the last couple - we had some good tests. The suspension and diffs are working a lot better now."

(Subaru) - fourth, +11.5s: "You have to say the Peugeots look strong. That last time of Gronholm's was very impressive. I made a couple of small errors, but it would have been a struggle to match his time."

(Subaru) - fifth, +13.6s: "I've been lifting in places where it's flat and I also lifted at the yellow finish board on SS2."

(Peugeot) - seventh, +23.0s: "On SS2 I had a strange feeling in the car and lost five seconds. I tried a different mapping in the differentials for SS3 and it was better."

(Ford) - eighth, +24.5s: "It seems Peugeot has taken a big step forward. We were hoping to be a bit closer than this. We'll be truing something else on the suspension now, but nothing too radical."

(Subaru) - ninth, +29.1s: The ever-improving Subaru ace had a brake problem on the day's first stage and said that it took until SS3 to get his confidence back up.

(Ford) - 10th, +30.7s: "It was a bit of a surprise to see Tommi (Makinen) at the side of the road, but a pleasant surprise. The last stage was fairly gravely in places. We're pushing reasonably hard, but we're on the safe side of the line. It should be a lot easier tomorrow, if we're running further down the field. There'll be a lot less gravel and we'll be able to see the lines as well."

(Hyundai) - 13th, +34.2s: "We're fine, but the others just seemed to go a bit faster. We will play with the suspension now."

(Ford) - 14th, +40.3s: The Frenchman had a couple of overshoots on the opening stages and complained that his Focus was suffering from a lack of lateral grip.

(Hyundai) - 15th, +43.1s: "We opted for the harder tyre compound, but would have been better with the softer one."

(Mitsubishi) - 17th, +51.6s: "It's sliding everywhere, especially on the fast places - I have to lift off all the time. We'll change the suspension and tyres now s we have to try and find something."

(Mitsubishi) - 18th, +53.7s: "The car kept getting a bit too sideways, especially on the fast stuff."

(Skoda) - 25th, +1m20.8s: Bruno is driving with his gravel noter Georges Biar because usual co-driver Stephane Prevot is still recovering from injuries sustained from crashing out on the last section of the Safari Rally. Thiry complained of suspension being too soft.

(Hyundai) - 26th, +1m22.9s: A union broke on the Swede's Hyundai causing him to lose his front and centre differential, as well as the power steering. He managed to fix it between stages two and three, but still had to manage without front diff for SS3.

(Skoda) - 32nd, +1m44.0s: The German is suffering from an ear infection this weekend which means he can only hear with one ear. A differential problem is making the car oversteer 'like hell'.
