Panizzi boasts of asphalt prowess
Peugeot's highly-fancied asphalt specialist Gilles Panizzi has thrown down the gauntlet to his rivals, saying his skills on sealed surfaces are greater than gravel experts' skills on loose surfaces
Speaking to AUTOSPORT magazine, the man regarded as the best asphalt driver in the world also stated he has discovered how to get an even greater performance from the already strong 206WRC.
"I have a good feeling for Corsica because I have found something else on the car which gives us an advantage," said the Frenchman. "Panizzi on asphalt still takes some beating. I am stronger on asphalt than many of the gravel experts are on gravel. The Panizzi-Peugeot package works very well."
Panizzi did concede that winning in Corsica will be an extremely difficult task and identified compatriot Philippe Bugalski, in a privateer Citroen Xsara WRC, as his greatest threat.
"If I do win in Corsica, it will be the most difficult victory I ever take," he added. "The biggest competition will come from the Citroen of Philippe Bugalski, and that the competition with Citroen will get stronger as the year goes on."
