Martin ready for team leader role
Markko Martin feels he's ready to take over as team leader at Ford should the Blue Oval decide not to retain the services of Carlos Sainz in 2003
"I hope Carlos stays," said the Estonian. "But if he doesn't I'll definitely be trying my best to be ready for that role.
"I think that I have got a good base to work from and I'm ready to step up another level. But it will be tough, there can be no excuses any more."
Following the announcement that Colin McRae will drive for Citroen next year, Sainz said he wants to continuing in the Focus for 2003 but admits he is in talks with other teams in case Ford decides to let him go.
"It's the same as it has been for a while now," said Sainz. "Ford has to decide what it wants to do. I would like to stay but if it is impossible for me to stay I am talking to other people and have to pursue other options."
