Kankkunen leads, Burns challenging
Carlos Sainz and Colin McRae set the pace on SS10 of the Rally Finland as the battle for the lead became a three-way fight between Gronholm and the Subaru's.Sainz moved ahead of Makinen to take 4th, the latter yet to show the form that has taken him to five consecutive wins on this rally since 1994.McRae, who has never gone well in Finland, is still out of the points in 7th but has moved ahead of Harri Rovanpera and closed on his team-mate Thomas Radstrom.Juha Kankkunen has stretched his lead to a still slender 2.6s over Marcus Gronholm but Richard Burns is now closing in, only 0.4s behind the Peugeot.Burns was stunning on this event last season. Conventional wisdom suggests that this most specialised of rallies takes two or three attempts to master, but Burns was 5th on his debut here in 1998 and is challenging for victory already this year.Further back, Didier Auriol is struggling with handling problems in his Toyota Corolla. The Frenchman is slipping back into the clutches of privateer Sebastien Lindholm, still running ahead of some more illustrious names in factry teams.Overall positions after SS10:
