Gronholm wins, congratulates Burns

Network Q Rally of Great Britain winner Marcus Gronholm was one of the first to congratulate Richard Burns on his World Rally Championship title - but warned him he wants it back next year

Outgoing world champ Gronholm, who is joined by Burns at Peugeot next year, had leapt from his car to be ready to shake hands with the Englishman when he came to a halt at the end of the final stage.

"I'm really happy to win the rally," said Gronholm. "But I felt I must congratulate Richard straight away. It was easy [to win] once Richard stopped pushing. A win is great but I'll try and get the title back next year."

Gronholm's first Rally GB win comes hot on the heels of his Rally Australia success earlier this month. These two victories mean the Finn leaps to fourth in the final world championship standings, tied on points with Rally GB runner-up Harri Rovanpera.

The Burns/Gronholm/Rovanpera trio means that Peugeot, which won the manufacturers' championship on Rally GB, boasts the most potent driver line-up for 2002.

"Next year it gets really interesting," said Rovanpera.
