Gronholm: Burns is main threat
World Rally Championship leader Marcus Gronholm believes his biggest title rival is now team-mate Richard Burns after out-scoring his closest points challenger Colin McRae on last weekend's Rallye Deutschland
Following his third place in Germany, Gronholm has an 18-point lead over McRae in the championship, with Burns two points further back - and the Finn reckons the Peugeot 206WRC will be the car to beat over the season's final four rounds.
"Maybe Colin is finding it difficult just now," Gronholm told AUTOSPORT magazine. "We were strong in Germany and I'm sure we can do the same in Sanremo. Then we're onto three gravel rallies where I know I'll be strong. Perhaps now Colin's chances are quite small for the title."
Despite this, Gronholm says he won't be taking his foot of the gas as he guns for his second world title.
"I'm not thinking like I'm the champion yet, either, because Richard is still driving and scoring well and I'm sure he'll be scoring well and pushing me hard right until the end of the season."
