Gronholm aims to build on lead

Marcus Gronholm is aiming to increase his advantage at the head of the WRC standings in the next two rallies in Greece and Finland

The Ford driver moved to the top of the table after winning Rally Italia following the retirement of Citroen rival Sebastien Loeb. Gronholm is now seven points ahead of the Frenchman.

And with the Rally Acropolis and his home event in Finland coming up next, Gronholm is optimistic he will be able to build on his lead.

"Victory in Italy put me back into the lead of the championship. The next two rallies give me the opportunity to build on that lead," said Gronholm.

"The Acropolis is traditionally a strong event for Ford while the first event after the summer break in Finland is my home event so I really want to capitalise on those.

"It's a hard event for both drivers and cars. The weather during our test this week has been cold, muddy and wet. It is forecast to turn warmer and drier in time for the rally but in the shaded areas where the surface is often clay-based, mud patches may remain. That will be strange for Greece.

"My confidence is good and I really want to take the fight to Loeb as I did in Italy."

Gronholm took dominant victories both in Greece and Finland last year.
