Grapevine: Wales Rally GB to honour Burns, Park
Wales Rally GB organisers have announced two new prizes in honour of the late Richard Burns and Michael 'Beef' Park
The highest placed British junior driver, born after 1st January 1981, in this year's event will win the Richard Burns Trophy and £1,000, while the leading British junior co-driver will be presented with the Michael Park Trophy.
FIA priority 1 competitors (the Manufacturer 1 and 2 entrants) will not be eligible for the award, but Production and Junior WRC contenders will.
"Wales Rally GB wanted to do something to commemorate Richard and Beef," said Burns' former co-driver Robert Reid.
"They already had a young drivers' award which was unnamed so with my Richard Burns Foundation hat on it made sense to create a co-drivers' award to go alongside it and name it after the boys.
"It is in the spirit of what Richard and Beef would have supported themselves."
Burns, the 2001 World Rally Champion, died last November after losing his two-year battle against a brain disease.
Park was killed in a crash during last year's Rally of Britain.
