Gardemeister calls for more speed

Toni Gardemeister has called on his Suzuki team to find more speed from the SX4 WRC after the car was off the pace at today's Tour de Corse shakedown stage

The Finn's fastest time was 10 seconds slower than Francois Duval's benchmark for the 3.7-mile stage.

Asked how he felt about the Suzuki's progress a year on from its Tour de Corse debut in Corsica last season, Gardemeister replied: "I expected we would have some problems during the year, but we have more [than I expect].

"I also expected better speed. At least we have some reliability on the car. We have no breakdowns, but at the start of the year we had too many technical problems. Hopefully they're all sorted and we're going in the right way, but we need speed."

Gardemeister is battling illness on the Ajaccio-based event. He added: "I've got fever. I feel really tired all of the time at the moment. I hope it's better for tomorrow."

Gardemeister's teammate P-G Andersson didn't provide much more cheer, his fastest shakedown time was only 0.2 seconds faster than Gardemeister's.
