Ford rectify Gronholm's problems
The Ford team are confident that the mechanical problem that affected Marcus Gronholm in the last stage of leg two in Corsica has been fixed ready for the final day
Gronholm reported a loss of power three kilometres from the end of the Vico-Col St Roch stage yesterday afternoon, and also had to revert to manual gear-changing after his paddleshift mechanism stopped functioning.
But the Finn reached the evening service without difficulty and Ford were able to rectify the glitch.
"Marcus lost the use of the hydraulic gearshift and (had) a drop in engine power but fortunately he didn't lose any serious time," said team boss Malcolm Wilson. "We traced this to a gearbox sensor problem and we replaced the sensor in the service park this evening."
Gronholm went into today's final four stages 27.5 seconds behind leader and title rival Sebastien Loeb.
"We need to be realistic now and look at maintaining our position," Wilson said.
If the positions stay the same, Loeb will reduce Gronholm's championship lead to four points with three rallies remaining.
