Calamuchita Service 2: Solberg has drink problems

Colin McRae (Ford), leader: The Ford ace took it easier on the last three stages as two of the tests were re-runs from the morning and the Scot did not want to take any risks

Burns didn't think there was anything particularly rough about the re-run stages. The Subaru star has resigned himself to keep plugging away.

The Spaniard felt slightly better in the afternoon and pain from a trapped nerve in his back had subsided. "It would be good if we could hold onto third spot."

The Finn moved up to fifth despite choosing a tyre compound which was too hard, preventing him from pushing.

"On SS12 my water bottle fell and got stuck between the throttle and brake pedals. Then on SS14 I had only third and fifth gears. It's a shame because I had really decided to attack that one - it would have been a cracker."

Gronholm lost almost two minutes with power steering problems and no hydraulic pressure in his 206's differential. "It's not like a standard road car with no power steering. It's very difficult to drive."
