Burns backs Rally GB plan

World Champion Richard Burns has given a cautious welcome to the route of the 2002 Rally Great Britain, revealed last week

The route to the year's season finale has been designed to make spectating easier for fans to enjoy and marshals to control.

"On the positive side, I'm pleased to see we've got decent long stages to enjoy," Burns told AUTOSPORT magazine. "And it's good that in many cases, the stages are repeated the same day. That will make things easier for spectators and hopefully allow the organisers to keep a close eye on safety as well."

There have been some questions raised about stages being run in the later afternoon. Reverse seeding could mean that the rally leader runs some stages in darkness, which does concern Burns.

"I do worry slightly about the stage timings in the afternoon," he continued. "The leader on the second day is likely to have to run in darkness and that could have a profound effect on the result. Last year it wasn't a problem because everyone had the same conditions, and that's all you can ask for. As it stands, it's going to be unfair one way or another."

Rally GB, the curtain closer to the season, will run from 14-17 November.
