Armin Schwarz Q&A

Armin Schwarz has switched from Skoda's World Rally Championship team to another up-and-coming manufacturer for 2002. Hyundai made progress with Mitsubishi-bound Alister McRae last season and the South Korean marque will be hoping to continue that trend with the German. After three years with Skoda, Schwarz is revved up for a new challenge. Autosport.com caught up with him at Hyundai's season launch

"I haven't had so long in the car so far, but I can see it's got a lot of potential. There are things that we've been able to notice immediately where we can improve the car with the next homologation. It'll probably take me a few months to get really settled in and see the changes that we're asking for."

"Fantastic. I've been very impressed with the attitude at MSD - it's quite a young team in terms of running a World Rally Car but the actual company has a lot of experience in rallying and that's a good blend. I'm very pleased to be working with such an enthusiastic group of people - it's very encouraging."

"I'd like to think that we can be aiming for points placings and maybe even the podium on some rallies. From what I've seen of the car so far I think it'll be easier to make the challenge on the gravel than asphalt just yet, so perhaps by the time we get to rallies like the Acropolis we'll be able to seriously challenge for podium placings there. I really think with the improvements we can make there's great potential."

"You know, when I was at Skoda I thought we were making a lot of progress quite quickly but when you actually look back, the gradient of that curve was a lot less steep than it seemed. Here at Hyundai I think we can make jumps in performance because there are good resources and the team is very enthusiastic."
