Toyota still keen on Le Mans
Totoya regards the 24 Hours of Le Mans as unfinished business and would contemplate a return if it was no longer involved in Formula One, according to this week's Autosport
The Japanese marque's Formula One boss John Howett said: "Le Mans is something we would consider again. If we did, there's no way we would do it in addition to F1. It would have to be one or the other."
Toyota was a regular at Le Mans from the mid-1980s until 1993. It then returned for a two-year attack on the big race in 1998-'99 with the Andre de Cortanze-designed GT-One as it geared up for its F1 entry in 2002.
Toyota, which still races in the Super GT Series in Japan, is known to have looked at Sportscar racing as a way of promoting its luxury Lexus brand.
It also evaluated the DTM and the World Touring Car Championship over the course of last season, but has yet to commit to any programme beyond its Formula One commitments.
Former Toyota Formula One driver Allan McNish last month told autocar.co.uk that he believed his former employer would return to Le Mans in the near future.
