Relaxed Rockenfeller eyeing victory

Mike Rockenfeller is hoping for a strong showing in the Le Mans 24 Hours this weekend to make up for the disappointment of crashing out of last year's race

The German shunted the No. 3 Audi R10 at Tertre Rouge less than two hours into the race, but says he has put the incident behind him and is confident going into the event.

"It's not easy to overcome a crash like last year, but it's over," he told autosport.com. "It doesn't help me if every time I go through the corner I think 'this is where I ruined the race'.

"It's hard to describe the feeling, to be in such a good car, to have such a chance, then to really not succeed. I completely messed it up.

"But the best thing you can do is to forget it, keep going, and be successful. Luckily I have another chance and it's completely different now. We feel much stronger, we know what to expect, and we've had some good races in the Le Mans Series.

"I'm confident and relaxed, and we don't feel we have to prove so much and can just focus on getting the best result."

Rockenfeller also believes that the No. 3 Audi, with the younger, less experienced line-up, can compete for the victory as strongly as the sister cars.

"Definitely we want to win it," he added. "The number of wins the other guys have is incredible so I think it's fair that we get one now! Of course every crew wants to win and our goal is first of all to be the best Audi. Then, hopefully, that means to win the race.

"We want to keep it clean and run trouble free. Of course we want to push, but we don't have as much to prove as we did last year when we had a little bit in our minds wanting to show how quick we were and that we could beat the others.

"The competition will be close so the one that has no problems will win, and I hope that's our car."
