Rain will not bother Pirro
Champion Racing Audi driver Emanuele Pirro says he is unconcerned by the possibility of rain in Le Mans practice tonight (Thursday). Although this would mean that his entry remains the last of the R8 s on the grid, he says it's more important to work out a good race setting
"To be honest, I don't care if it rains," said the Italian as a late afternoon shower drenched the Le Mans paddock. "For us it is most important to have a good car for the race. I don't care whether we start first, second or third."
Yesterday evening's practice started poorly for the Champion team, but gradually improved. Its time was 1.2 seconds behind the leading Audi UK entry, but Pirro stressed that neither he nor team-mates JJ Lehto and Marco Werner were pushing for a lap time.
"We weren't trying to drive more aggressively than we should, but we weren't very happy in the beginning," said Pirro. "But we changed a few things for the second session and ended up very happy. I would say we have a good car for the race."
Le Mans fans can rest assured that tonight will not be a quiet session even if the weather is inclement: "It won't be a waste of time. We won't be sitting in the pits if it rains. It could rain in the race and it would be difficult to go out in the wet without any practice."
