Montagny not making predictions
Franck Montagny's Peugeot 908 may be sitting on provisional pole at Le Mans courtesy of last night's late-session flyer by team-mate Stephane Sarrazin, but Montagny is determined to approach the race from moment to moment
Last year Montagny was leading comfortably when his car suffered a turbo failure on the Sunday morning.
"Is there extra pressure? Not at all," he told AUTOSPORT. "Last year was last year, you know? I saw some pictures where I was sitting on the car and to me it now feels more like a dream - like something in my head rather than something that really happened. It's a long time ago and it really doesn't affect me at all.
"You can't manage all the parameters of a race like this so whatever happens, happens. You have to be ready to react, every time you take part in something - whether it's Le Mans or any other race. You have to do everything possible to make it right. That's Peugeot's philosophy and mine too.
"I have not done much running in the wet, but that doesn't change anything. When it rains the conditions are the same for everyone - I could tell you my car is better in a particular corner, or on a certain type of tyre, and all that blah-blah-blah. But when the rain comes, you can't predict accurately when it is going to come, and how much, so you just have to get on and do the job from moment to moment.
"The best weather forecaster can tell you it's going to rain at midday on Sunday and then it arrives midnight on Saturday, you know? I'm waiting for the flag to start the race and then we'll see what happens."
