McRae brings it home

Colin McRae reached the finish in his first Le Mans 24 Hours. Despite a few trips to the gravel and mechanical problems, the former World Rally Champion brought the car home third in the GTS class. McRae was aided in the race by more experienced co-drivers Rickard Rydell and Darren Turner."

"It was a great experience," said McRae. "A lot tougher than I anticipated. Obviously being the rookie of the team I needed a lot of support and help to get me up to speed, which I got from Darren and Rickard."

"It was the hardest drive I have ever done in my life. There's a great atmosphere. Will I be back? We'll have to wait and see."

There was another British driver in the Corvette that won the category, where Oliver Gavin shared with Olivier Beretta and Jan Magnussen to take honours in a war of attrition against the Ferrari.

"We're extremely delighted with this result. it wasn't easy. There were lots of little incidents - some of them self-inflicted and some just bad luck. But the team bounced back from everything."
