McNish certain car can be fixed

Allan McNish is confident the Audi team will be able to fix his R10 TDI in time for today's 5pm (local time) start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The German outfit experienced reliability problems in this morning's warm-up at the French circuit. The No. 7 car driven by Allan McNish, which qualified on pole position in the hands of Dindo Capello, had a very slow out-lap and went straight back to the pits.

After approximately 15 minutes it went out again but it was again a very slow lap leading straight back to the German manufacturer's garage.

McNish told autosport.com that the team don't yet know what the problem is, after it was initially thought to be driveshaft-related.

"I'm sure they'll fix it because they have quite a long time before the race and ultimately we always find the problem, so from that point of view I'm sure we'll be starting the race at five o'clock," he said.

"But now we can't say what it is because we don't know. Until you know what it is you can't be confident of anything.

"There was something wrong in the data and in the feeling of the car when I started the first lap, so I came very slowly to the pits and they checked it and couldn't see anything.

"We thought it was a driveshaft initially so we went out again but that wasn't actually that problem because it was exactly the same, so I had to come very slowly to the pits again and they're looking to find out what the problem is."
