McNish and Lehto crash
Two of the leading runners in the Le Mans 24 Hours have crashed at the Porsche Curves near the end of the second hour of the event, bringing out the safety car. Allan McNish and JJ Lehto, who were running second and third in their Audi R8s, both went off at the corner on the 30th lap
It appears that both drivers spun off separately on oil. Marshals extricated both from the gravel, although Lehto's car is sporting significant-looking damage.
On his return to the pit the Finn said: "It was like ice. There was oil all over the track and no flags or warnings. Me and Allan were the first to hit it and there was no grip at all. Hopefully they can fix the car, but it doesn't look good at the moment. There's lot of damage. After hitting a wall at 300kmh - you know how it is."
McNish's car also appears to be sporting significant damage, and his participation in the race looks uncertain. GTS front-runner Rickard Rydell also spun on the oil in his Prodrive Ferrari 550, although he escaped without damage.
