Lister withdraws from race
The British Lister team has withdrawn from the Le Mans 24 Hours following Jamie Campbell-Walter's crash in qualifying today (Thursday)
The Briton crashed the LMP900 Lister Storm at the Esses early in the session, and had to be extricated from his car by his medical personnel.
Team boss Laurence Pear spoke briefly to autosport.com after the accident, shortly before the decision to withdraw from the race was made.
"It was a big off," he said. "The car pulled 14g in the accident. We won't get it repaired in time to qualify tonight."
Campbell-Walter has been discharged from the circuit medical centre and could be seen earlier, limping around the Lister garage while inspecting the damage to the left-hand side of the car.
"Jaimie's going to be alright," said Pearce. "No bones broken but I don't think he's going to be racing on Saturday. This leaves us 14th on the grid with not a lot of options."
The team's withdrawal is the culmination of a tough year for its new prototype car. The Lister completed just a handful of laps at Sebring before retiring, and there was upheaval in the team shortly before the race, with Vincent Vosse replacing Jean-Denis Delatraz.
