Herbert to race for Bentley
Johnny Herbert will join Bentley's driver line-up for the Le Mans 24 Hours in June
The former grand prix driver is set to be announced once the marque has finalised who will join him in his car.
It was confirmed at the Detroit Motor Show yesterday that Audi aces Tom Kristensen and Rinaldo Capello will partner Englishman Guy Smith in the other of the two Bentleys entered for the race (see link below).
Herbert raced for Bentley's sister marque Audi at Le Mans last year, finishing second with Capello and Frank Biela. He won the race with Mazda back in 1991.
For this year's race, parent company VW has decided not to enter a works team of Joest Audi R8s, which have won the 24 Hours for the past three years. Importer-backed Audis will from Champion, Team Goh and Audi UK will compete instead, paving the way for Bentley to have its best shot of outright victory. Speed 8s have finished third and fourth over the past two years at Le Mans.
No one from Team Bentley was available to AUTOSPORT for comment on Herbert's deal.
