H19: Scare for class-leading Lola
The dominant leader of the LMP2 class, the No. 25 MG Lola, had a scare in the 19th hour of the Le Mans 24 hours when it pulled into the pits for an alternator change
The car fell down the overall order from sixth to seventh after losing three laps in the pits fixing the problem with the electrics.
It then had a second prolonged stop towards the end of the hour losing another five minutes. The car is back out again now however, and Thomas Erdos still holds a comfortable 12-lap advantage over the second-placed car in the class, the No. 27 Courage.
The Audi R10 TDI continues to lead and has now extended its advantage to four laps over the No. 17 Pescarolo, which is now being driven by Eric Helary.
The GT2 polesitter, the IMSA Performance Porsche No. 76 has finally retired with engine failure. The car, rebuilt after a qualifying crash, has been beset with problems through the race, from going off track to replacing a clutch. The team members hugged each other to celebrate their Herculean effort after calling time on their race.
The No.9 Creation is stationary in the pits, currently sixth in LMP1, with what looks like terminal technical problems.
