H10: Audi holds on to lead
Audi's stranglehold on the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans remains tight as Marco Werner pushed on towards the 11th hour with a comfortable four-lap lead over the No. 17 Pescarolo, the only one of the French cars still in realistic contention
Werner is making good use of the cool conditions of the night to start exploring the potential of the diesel-powered R10 DTI, running consistently two seconds faster than anyone else on track.
Behinds Sebastien Loeb's second-placed Pescarolo, Jan Lammers's Dome is back up to third after Dindo Capello was forced to pit for accident damage repairs.
The Italian also handed over to the legendary Tom Kristensen, who for the second time in a day, set off in pursuit of his seventh consecutive podium visit, if not victory.
The leading GT1 car, the No. 009 Aston Martin, has moved up to fifth place overall in the hands of Stephane Ortelli after the Swiss Spirit entry's gallant run came to an end with gearbox failure.
Corvette's Jan Magnussen is now sixth, a lap down on the Aston.
Andy Wallace has recovered the lead in LMP2 for the RML Lola team and now holds a three-lap advantage over the Chamberlain Lola.
The Seikel Porsche still holds the lead in the GT2 category although not by much from the Spyker.
Other incidents during the hour included a visit to the gravel for the Lister Storm at Indianapolis while Jens Moller was at the helm.
"Pushing too hard," said team boss Laurence Pearce. "They just said to me new tyres, but he was on new tyres.
"He is a lovely guy, love him to bits, but he does lose his concentration and that's what happens when you lose concentration at 200mph."
