Craft to boost Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 field for Sepang finale
The Asian Le Mans Series LMP2 ranks will expand for the championship finale at Sepang next month with the addition of a car run by championship regular Craft Racing
Philippines-based Craft, which races in the GTC class of the series with an Aston Martin V12 Vantage, will field the Murphy Prototypes-owned ORECA-Nissan 03 (pictured) to bring the P2 entry at the Malaysian round on December 8 to three cars.
Craft is running the car, which was used by the championship-challenging KCMG squad at the Zhuhai event in October, as a lead-in to a full LMP2 campaign in the 2014 Asian series.
Team boss Mark Goodard, whose squad will also field a second Aston at Sepang, said: "We fully intend to do LMP2 next year and the car was out here in Asia anyway, so it made sense to do Sepang to demonstrate that we will be there next year.
"I also know Greg Murphy [boss of Murphy Prototypes] very well; I actually ran him in Asian Formula 3 a few years back."
The ORECA, which will be run by Craft with assistance from Murphy crew members, will be driven by Formula Masters China class champion Jun Jin 'Kevin' Pu and Irish Formula Vee frontrunner Dan Polley, who has raced in Formula Renault Asia.
A third driver for the three-hour race is due to be announced imminently.
Craft is also planning to enter the new LMP3 prototype category in 2014, which will be open in Asia next year to carbon-chassis Group CN cars of the type that run in SPEED EuroSeries and VdeV.
The Asian series P2 battle will be fought out by KCMG driver James Winslow and factory OAK racer David Cheng, who go to Malaysia separated by four points.
