Cadillac to quit sportscar racing
US manufacturer Cadillac will pull out of sportscar racing and its Le Mans 24 Hours programme at the edn of the season, according to this week's AUTOSPORT magazine
The General Motors brand had been expected to extend its three-year campaign into a fourth in 2003. But GM bosses made the decision last week to pull the plug on the Northstar LMP-02.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made, Cadillac boss Gary Cowger revealed the news to AUTOSPORT.
The team's commercial director Wayne Taylor, who also drove for Caddy at Le Mans in 2000-02, said: "I don't know what to say because the programme was developing so much momentum. To stop now doesn't make sense."
The pull-out leaves Bentley as the only confirmed manufacturer set for next year's prototype class at Le Mans.
Cadillac will contest the remaining rounds of the American Le Mans Series before retiring its cars from the sport.
