Audi consider customer programme

Audi have left the door open for more than two of their new diesel-powered R10 TDI cars to compete at Le Mans next year

Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, head of Audi Motorsport, reckons that a similar programme to that of the all-conquering R8, with a works Le Mans effort preceded by a customer programme, could occur with the new R10.

Although Ullrich wouldn't confirm that a customer programme would be in place for next year, he did admit that it was a possibility.

"It could happen in the next year or in the year after that we build up a programme with importers like we did with the R8," Ullrich told autosport.com. "Because the idea is not to go purely to Le Mans.

"We want to multiply our efforts and bring the message into other championships as well and then it could happen that not only the works entries compete in Le Mans.

"It could happen that some of the countries that have a programme running could decide to go to Le Mans and run with our support and with their teams."
