Corvette shuffles American Le Mans Series line-up and splits Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen
Corvette has announced a reshuffled driver line-up for its 2012 American Le Mans Series GT campaign
Jan Magnussen and Oliver Gavin - who finished second in last year's championship sharing the #4 car - are split up for the new season. Tommy Milner moves across from the #3 to join Gavin in the #4, with Magnussen moving in the opposite direction. The Dane's new partner will be Antonio Garcia, who is promoted to a full-time role in place of Olivier Beretta this year after previously being an additional driver for the endurance events.
Jordan Taylor and Richard Westbrook will be added to the #3 and #4 driver line-ups respectively for the longer races.
General Motors racing director Mark Kent said the revised pairings would make Corvette more competitive.
"As part of our comprehensive review of Corvette Racing, we considered every element of the programme, from the chassis and engine to the driver pairings," he said.
"Pre-season testing and data analysis suggested that a revised driver alignment could improve the team's overall performance.
"Certainly physical size is a factor in minimising the time required for driver changes during pitstops, but we also evaluated the drivers' individual styles and their preferences on chassis set-ups. With these pairings, we can minimise compromises and maximise driver confidence."
