Suspension blow for BMW 'Art Car'
BMW has confirmed that it was forced to change the entire right rear suspension on the #79 BMW M3 'Art Car', after Dirk Muller suffered a puncture prior to the first chicane on the Mulsanne straight in the third hour of Le Mans
Having stopped the car on track and investigated the problem, Muller - who had been running sixth in GT2 - eventually brought the car back to the pits only for the team to lose an hour fixing the problem.
"Dirk suffered a puncture, but then damaged the floor of the car while bringing it back to the pits," explained a BMW Motorsport team spokesperson. "The damage was so bad that it also broke the right rear suspension.
"This meant that we had to take the gearbox off of the car to take the broken suspension off, replace it and then put the gearbox back on."
The team also explained that the puncture on the Dunlop tyre came unexpectedly and that Muller had been in fourth gear when it occurred.
