Chris Dyson and Guy Smith curtail 2013 American Le Mans campaign

American Le Mans Series frontrunners Guy Smith and Chris Dyson are standing down from the Dyson team's line-up for most of the remaining 2013 rounds

The team's regular pairing aboard its solo Lola-Mazda B12/60 LMP1 prototype will miss the races at Mosport, Road America and Austin as part of a reshuffle of its driver line-up amid a focus on 2014.

They will only drive together again this season at the Baltimore street race at the end of the August.

The team is bringing in pay drivers Tony Burgess and Chris McMurry, who contested selected races with Dyson last year, for the races Smith and Dyson skip, plus the Petit Le Mans series finale in October.

Smith will contest the event at the Virginia International Raceway in October with Johnny Mowlem, while Dyson will race at Petit with Burgess and McMurry.

Dyson has conceded that a repeat of its 2011 LMP1 title is now beyond the team and has decided that it is better to focus its efforts on next season.

"We are no longer in this year's championship hunt, and because our team will likely campaign a LMP2 car next year, we want to get started on that programme sooner rather than later," he said. "This will take up a good deal of my time and energy."

Dyson is understood to have been close to buying an HPD ARX-03c from Mike Newton, but Dyson said he could not comment on "potential transactions".
