Looks like Makowiecki will hold off passing Taylor on-track - sensible heads required now with five and a half hours still left to go.
The stop for the #13 Rebellion of Heinemeier Hansson has dropped it off the lead lap again.
And here's your race leader on a recent visit to the pits:
Here's Patterson after his spin at the chicane a few moments ago:
There have been nine official retirements so far. Here they are in reverse order of laps completed: #4 ByKolles CLM, #88 Proton Porsche, #28 G-Drive/TDS ORECA; #82 Risi Ferrari; #25 Manor ORECA; #7 Toyota; #9 Toyota; #92 Porsche; #29 TDS ORECA.
Heinemeier Hansson brings the #13 Rebellion ORECA into the pits. There's some attention to the rear of the car and some confusion about whether or not it was released.
The problems of the #31 Rebellion ORECA are of the transmission variety. We've just seen a new gear cluster being slotted in.
The #31 Rebellion is still in the garage. It has dropped to eighth in class.
Earl Bamber picks off Richard Bradley's #40 Graff ORECA to move up to eighth overall.
No need for Makowiecki to wait for Taylor to pit the #63 Corvette out of the way - he's homing in on him on-track. Taylor is now leading in the #63 after Adam pitted the #97 Aston and handed over to Turner.
Panciatici makes his stop in the #35 Signatech ORECA that is currently third. It's having a much better race than the #36 sister car, which has had a litany of problems but is still going and 12th in class.
With the ORECAs, as anticipated, dominating in LMP2, let's have a look at how the other three chassis manufacturers in this class are doing. Firstly, yes there are only four manufacturers, the Signatech Alpines are ORECAs. So the best non-ORECA is the #32 United Autosport's Ligier of Albquerque, currently in fifth place. That has been best of the rest for much of the race. The leading Dallara, the #47 Villorba entry, is one place behind with Lacorte at the wheel. There's also the #43 Riley, which is still running but has had a trying race - earlier on, some debris hit the engine cut out and there were later some alternator problems. That car is 21st with Keating at the wheel.
The issues for the #31 Rebellion ORECA mean the #2 Porsche is now ninth overall. The next target is the #40 Graff machine, which is only 10 seconds up the road.
The #38 Jackie Chan ORECA's lead over the #13 Rebellion is 2m48.846s.
The #45 Algarve Ligier, driven by Patterson, has spun out of the last chicane.
Quick update on the progress of the three remaining LMP1s - the #1 Porsche of course still leads by 12 laps, the #2 car is 10th overall and 17 laps down, and the sole remaining #8 Toyota is 13th overall and a further nine laps back.
Rebellion is attending to the brakes on the #31 ORECA, but this is clearly not a routine change of pads and discs.
The rear of the car seems to be the focus of attention of the #31 Rebellion. The engine cover is off and the team is looking at the two rear corners.
The #31 Rebellion ORECA that holds fourth in class and fifth overall is being rolled into the garage.
Laurent heads back out in the leading #38 Jackie Chan DC ORECA, which is also second overall.
Laurent brings the LMP2-leading #38 Jackie Chan DC ORECA into the pits.
And Adam (#97 Aston) nails the #63 Corvette into the Dunlop chicane.
So Makowiecki leads in the #91 Porsche by a minute from Taylor's #63 Corvette. Tincknell was briefly up to second in the #67 Ford, but it was at the end of its pit cycle and has now come in, rejoining in fifth. The #97 Aston - another former race leader - is right on Taylor's tail in third.
It's all very spread out at the front of the field now with Jani in the #1 Porsche leading by 12 laps over Laurent in the #38 Jackie Chan CS ORECA. That in turn has a lap in hand over the #13 Rebellion, which leads the #35 Signatech ORECA by almost three-and-a-half minutes.
Thiim has slowed in the #95 Aston that had been in the lead until its trip into the gravel at Arnage.
The #24 Manor ORECA has been handed a five second time penalty for accelerating before the end of a slow zone.
Now Heinemeier Hansson has pitted from second in LMP2 in the #13 Rebellion.
Taylor pits from the lead in the #63 Corvette and resumes in third.
Next to stop is third-placed LMP2 driver Senna who hands over to Prost in the #31 Rebellion ORECA. This has now dropped them behind the #35 Signatech ORECA to fourth.
Jani has now brought the leading Porsche in for its latest stop and hands over to Tandy.
The #95 Aston is back out with Nicki Thiim in charge, now eighth in class, but it's no longer on the lead lap.
Over in GTE Am, Vanthoor is building on the #84 JMW Ferrari's already considerable lead by around seven seconds a lap from bronze-rated Cameron in the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari.
It has been a while since we've had a Porsche update. Jani continues to lead in the #1 with his advantage now up to 12 laps. Bamber in the #2 is currently 10th still.
Good thing the run-off area at Arnage was extended a few years ago - to the considerable enrichment of the owner of the nearby house, no doubt. Those crucial extra few metres could have saved the #95 Aston from race-ending damage.
