We have the first safety car of the race as the #52 Pro-Am Ferrari, with West at the wheel, has spun into the barriers at the Porsche Curves.
West crashed on his in-lap, his team-mate Gorig understandbly demonstrates his frustration to the cameras just moments before he was supposed to take over driving duties of the #52 AF Corse.
The leading #7 Toyota takes the opportunity to pit under the safety car. We await to see how that impacts the gap at the front and which safety car train Lopez is released into.
Canadian Dalla Lana is now leading GTE-Am after taking over from Farfus in the #98 Aston. The #90 TF Sport Aston sits in second place with Yoluc replacing Adam at the wheel.
Worth noting that Porsche has cured the #92's power steering woes and Estre is back out on track, albiet 12 laps down on the GTE Pro leaders. Rigon still leading Serra at the front of the field in an AF Corse Ferrari 1-2.
The #1 Rebellion also pits under the safety car having been running in third place a lap ahead of the sister car in fourth place. Lopez in the #7 Toyota is released on to the track to catch the safety car train and is set to join the same line as the #8 Toyota.
Having just pitted before the safety car the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing car won't be coming back in from the class lead and, so far, neither have the #26 G-Drive Racing in second or #32 United Autosports in third, but the #22 United Autosports car driven by Albuquerque has pitted from fourth place.
The timing of the safety car has trimmed the GTE Pro lead battle to three cars. The #95 Aston - with Thiim currently at the wheel - has fallen a lap down in fourth place. The sister #97 Aston runs third behind the two leading AF Corse Ferrari entries.
So with the pitstops under the safety car largely completed to provide an updated order, Nakajima in the #8 Toyota leads ahead of the #7 sister car which pitted. The #1 Rebellion remains in third place two laps down but a safety car train ahead of the #3 Rebellion in fourth. ByKolles is fifth and last in class and 25th place overall.
An update on the GTE Pro lead battle, the #95 Aston is indeed still on the lead lap, it's just sat behind a different safety car train to the leading three cars.
The #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing still leads its class but now only has a tiny advantage over both the #26 G-Drive Racing and #32 United Autosports cars as they are in the same safety car train. The #38 JOTA is fourth in class but one safety car train back.
The TV director knows how to build up tension under this safety car as they cut to clouds in the distance rumbling with thunder and flashing with lightning. Rain is on the way...
Rigon currently heads an AF Corse 1-2 in the #71 Ferrari ahead of the #51 Ferrari in GTE Pro. The top four is completed by a pair of Aston entries. Lynn is in the same train as the leading Ferraris, while fellow Aston driver Thiim is a distant fourth in a different safety car train. Bourdais rounds out the top five for Risi Competizione.
Cameron's off at the Dunlop Chicane in the #55 Ferrari is under investigation. It appears the #22 United ORECA might have been involved.
We're back to green flag running with under 18 hours on the clock and thunder on the horizon...
Given the prolonged safety car period the #32 United Autosports has needed to pit from third place. That'll see it drop out of the 'lead' safety car train. Brundle has taken over from Owen behind the wheel.
10-second time penalty at the next pitstop for the #27 DragonSpeed USA car for a pitstop infringement.
Iron Lynx team boss Piccini has taken second in GTE-Am from Yoluc in the TF Aston.
And now Piccini is into the lead ahead of Dalla Lana in the factory Aston.
G-Drive hot shoe Verge is closing in on Aubry for the P2 lead. Don't forget that Aubry is the 'am' in the Chan/DC line-up. He's a silver, though definitely in the 'silver worth his weight in gold' category
The shutters have come down on the #55 Spirit of Race Ferrari. ELMS regular Cameron crashed earlier in the race and has spent the last hour in the garage.
Calado has moved the #51 AF Corse Ferrari into the lead of GTE Pro after overtaking the sister #71 Ferrari.
Nakajima has pitted the #8 Toyota and Lopez moves back into the lead in the sister car.
Vergne vs Aubry for the lead in LMP2 and Vergne gets ahead on the run down to Mulsanne corner. Hard to tell in the darkness but it looks like the Formula E star profited from on-track traffic to get ahead of the #37 Jackie Chan DC Racing driver.
Rigon's fall down the GTE Pro order in the #71 Ferrari entry has continued, he's now lost second place to Lynn in the #97 Aston.
Nakajima has pitted on schedule, still out of sync with the sister Toyota, which gives the lead back to the #7 driven by Lopez. Two class lead changes in quick succession.
That was a 13-lap stint from Lopez. Obviously you don't use as much fuel in behind the safety car as in normal running. The Equivalence of Technology has been calculated so that the hybrid Toyotas and the privateer LMP1s can each do 11 laps under normal running. There's nothing to say you can't go longer.
Iron Lynx team boss Piccini has bolted clear at the front of the GTE Am field, his advantage over the second-place Aston - in the hands of Dalla Lana - has risen to nearly 10 seconds.
Bad news for ByKolles fans, as the #4 has crashed at the Dunlop curve with Spengler at the wheel which has triggered a second safety car period.
In an unrelated incident to the ByKolles crash, the #30 Duqueine Team with Gommendy at the controls has crashed approaching the first chicane on the Mulsanne Straight.
TV replays show the rear wing of the ByKolles flying off with Spengler heading down the hill at La Chapelle. Spengler has got the car going again and is trying to get back to the pits with a very damaged rear.
This is going to be a prolonged safety car. They're cutting out the damaged barrier on the entry to the first chicane on the Mulsanne.
We're waiting for things to shake out but the GTE Am leading #75 Iron Lynx and the polesitting #61 Luzich Racing Ferrari are among those held in the pits.
Further drama in LMP1 as the #8 Toyota is wheeled into the garage with extensive work going on to the front-right of Nakajima's car. There has been an ongoing issue with the brake ducts with the car.
Erstwhile P2 leader Aubry has stopped on his outlap after pitting in the Chan/DC car.
Speaking of GTE Am, this second safety car period benefits those entries that can run their bronze-rated drivers under the safety car conditions. Among those who will benefit will be the current two class leaders Dalla Lana (#98 Aston) and Yoluc in the #90 TF Sport-run Aston.

A reminder that there's a six-hour minimum driving time for bronze-rated drivers at Le Mans.
Less has changed in GTE Pro than its Am counterpart. Calado still leads the class in the #51 AF Corse-run Ferrari - the 2019 class winners - ahead of Lynn in the #97 Aston and the sister #71 AF Corse of Rigon.
The #8 Toyota is back out of the garage and waiting at pitlane exit to return to the action. Nakajima remains in second place but is now one lap down on the sister #7 car in the lead.
