2022 Isle of Man TT: What is it, how to watch and more

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the TT had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021, marking the first time since the Second World War that the event hasn’t run on consecutive years.

The TT takes place over two weeks from 29 May to 10 June, with race week running from 4 June to 10 June.

For the first time in its history, the TT is being broadcast live to the world via the TT+ streaming platform.

What is the Isle of Man TT?

The Isle of Man TT is a motorcycle race that takes place on the tiny Manx island in the middle of the Irish Sea every summer.

It first took place in 1907 and has been running almost every year since, except during the Second World War; in 2001 due to the foot and mouth crisis; and in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Riders from across the world take part in the TT across different categories. The classes are:

• Superbike
• Supersport
• Superstock
• Lightweight
• Sidecars

What is the race week schedule for the 2022 Isle of Man TT?

Qualifying for the event takes place from 29 May to 2 June, which is where riders get their eye in on their machinery and also complete a minimum number of laps to qualify for each class.

Eight races will take place across race week from 3 June to 10 June. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday 4 June

Superbike TT – 6 laps
Sidecars TT 1 – 3 laps

Monday 6 June

Supersport TT 1 – 4 laps
Superstock TT – 4 laps

Wednesday 8 June

Lightweight TT – 3 laps
Supersport TT 2 – 4 laps

Friday 10 June

Sidecar TT 2 – 3 laps
Senior TT – 6 laps

Can I watch the 2022 Isle of Man TT live?

For the first time in the event’s history, the TT will be broadcast live.

In February, the TT announced its TT+ streaming platform, where all of its coverage of practice and race week can be viewed.

Partnering with Vimeo, the TT’s OTT platform coverage is being produced by Greelight TV.

A full presenting and commentary team has been put in place for the live feed coverage.

The coverage will be fronted by seasoned motorcycle sport presenter Matt Roberts, Formula 1 broadcaster Jennie Gow and Manxman Rick Faragher.

They will present from a new studio to be built in the Nobles fan park on the Island, with punditry provided by ex-TT racers Cameron Donald and Steve Plater, as well as additional reporting from Mark Miller, Maria Costello – who will also be competing at the 2022 event – Sidecar winner Patrick Farrance, retired Austrian racer Horst Saiger, journalist John Hogan and the TT’s fastest female Jenny Tinmouth.

Commentary is being fronted by Dave Moore, rotating cast of co-commentators.

The cost of a one-off subscription for the entirety of TT 2022 is £14.99, though the back catalogue of content available on the platform can be viewed for free.

Can I watch the 2022 Isle of Man TT for free?

ITV4 will continue to broadcast nightly one-hour highlight programmes during each day of race week.
