Skaife wins again in race two

Holden Racing Team's Mark Skaife made it two from two as he won the second race of this weekend's round at Eastern Creek

Skaife led from start to finish apart from a few laps during the compulsory pit stop. However, unlike race one, when he had no real opposition for the win, in race two Skaife had some pressure from behind.

This came from Rick Kelly and Jamie Whincup, who spent most of the race just a second or two behind Skaife, the gap even closer after each of the two safety car periods. But they weren't able to get close enough to take the lead away.

Whincup was close enough to take second from Kelly but was unable to find a way past. Whincup's teammate Craig Lowndes continued his rise up the order, moving from ninth on the grid to sixth by the of lap one to fourth at the finish, including a side-by-side battle with Todd Kelly to take fourth on lap 27. Todd Kelly completed the top five finishers.

Next in the order were a pair of Ford teams, Ford Performance Racing's Steven Richards and Mark Winterbottom ahead of the Jim Beam Racing duo of Steven Johnson and Will Davison, with Paul Morris scoring his second-best finish of the year with his tenth place finish.

While it was a good race for Skaife and the Kelly brothers, Toll HSV's Garth Tander race got off to the worst start possible, literally, as clutch problems left him stranded as the lights went out, everyone somehow avoiding hitting the stationary Holden.

Completing lap one in second-last place, steady progress and strategy throughout the race saw Tander claim the final points in fifteenth place, one place behind James Courtney who had started from 29th on the grid.
