Tander secures Albert Park pole

Holden Racing Team's Garth Tander put in a smooth but fast lap in the top-ten shootout to secure pole position for the first race of the BRC Impco V8 Supercars GP Challenge at Albert Park

Tander bumped James Courtney off the top spot, with the Jack Daniel's Racing duo of Todd and Rick Kelly filling the second row, after being fifth and seventh fastest in yesterday's qualifying session.

Shane van Gisbergen was another driver to move up in the shootout, jumping from tenth to fifth. But when there are winners there have to be losers, and the fastest man in yesterday's session, Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup, dropped six places to seventh just behind team-mate Craig Lowndes.

Greg Murphy also was a big loser in the shootout, with a trip across the grass at turn one ruining his lap, dropping from third to tenth.

Surprisingly, Ford Performance Racing's Mark Winterbottom failed to make the shootout, qualifying 13th fastest, just ahead of Lee Holdsworth and the polesitter's team-mate Will Davison.

Russell Ingall wasn't close to his team-mate either, qualifying 18th, two places ahead of Michael Caruso, while Steven Richards qualifying struggles continued, starting from second-last on the grid.
