Tung seals final RoC spot
A1GP racer Ho-Pin Tung has completed the line-up for the Race of Champions by winning the RoC China competition at Beijing's Birds Nest stadium
After coming through three earlier rounds - including a semi-final in which his rival Wang Shao Feng rolled his buggy, Tung, who has tested for the Williams Formula 1 team in the past, faced rally driver Han Han in the final.
He then beat his rival by 2.2 seconds to claim the final spot in the RoC, which takes place on Wednesday.
Additionally, Tung and Han's progression to the final has ensured that they will form Team China in the Nations' Cup, which will be held on Tuesday.
"I am looking forward to tomorrow, when Han Han and I will team up for
The ROC Nations Cup," said Tung.
"Looking at our efforts today, I think we have a good chance, although we will be racing Michael Schumacher and all the others. I am confident that we will be a strong team."
An exhibition event, the ROC Beijing Challenge, in which some of the RoC's international drivers competed against a number of local heroes, was also held.
Multiple Le Mans 24 Hours winner Emanuele Pirro emerged triumphant after beating Dakar Rally winner Giniel de Villiers in the final.
