Soucek wins again in season finale

Andy Soucek has capped his Formula 2 title-winning season with a supreme second straight victory in his home round at Barcelona

As in race one polesitter Robert Wickens lost ground away from the lights with Soucek again heading the pack into Turn 1, this time with Nicola de Marco for company. Philipp Eng also made a poor start from third on the grid and completed the first lap in ninth place.

Wickens hounded de Marco early in the race but was unable to find a way back past. Nevertheless, his podium finish was more than enough to secure the runner-up spot in the final championship standings over Mikhail Aleshin, who came home in seventh place.

Reigning in Spain, though, was Soucek. Fastest in the early running by up to a second per lap, the Spaniard eventually paced himself to record a winning margin of almost eight seconds.

Securing the remainder of the season's final points were Kazim Vasiliauskas, Tobias Hegewald, Tristan Vautier, Aleshin and Julien Jousse.

Milos Pavlovic and Jason Moore had been the first casualties of the race as they were both spun around amid frantic jostling for position in the midfield.

Sebastian Hohenthal was also in trouble later on, clipping Jack Clarke in an attempted move into Turn 1 before successfully passing the Briton - although soon afterwards Hohenthal spun off and out of the race. Mirko Bortolotti was the only other retirement.
