Buurman scores for PSV in Germany

The Dutchman set fastest lap in race one, but was pinned back to a tenth place finish when he was delayed by a clutch problem in his pit stop.

Tenth translated to seventh position on the reverse grid for race two. His progress from there was assisted firstly by an accident at Turn One, and then from a late-race drama that struck pole-sitter Enrico Toccacelo.

The AS Roma driver's race was disrupted by the deployment of a safety car, having looked set for victory with a two-and-a-half second cushion over Buurman on lap 15.

Shortly after the race restarted, Toccacelo slowed momentarily on the exit of Turn One, allowing Buurman into the lead with just three laps remaining.

Craig Dolby finished in a remarkable second for the Astromega-run Anderlecht entry.

Dolby started from the back row, courtesy of taking the runner-up spot in race one, but made an audacious manoeuvre to cut through the field at the Mercedes Arena on the opening lap.

The result means that Dolby takes the largest points haul away from the Nurburgring, but it is Donington's round one winner, Beijing G''aon's Davide Rigon, who extended his championship lead with third place.

"We had some bad luck in race one, and without it I could have finished better there," said Buurman. "However, maybe I wouldn't be sitting here now if I hadn't had those problems (as I started higher up the order in race two)."

At the start, former GP2 man Andreas Zuber collided with Tottenham's Duncan Tappy. From sixth on the grid, Zuber turned in on fourth-placed Tappy from outside and sustained a puncture against Tappy's front wing.

The incident prompted Tappy's retirement, while Zuber was delayed by driving almost a full lap on three wheels back to his Al-Ain pit garage.

Liverpool's Adrian Valles completed the opening lap in second, and hounded Toccacelo over the early laps in a closely contested fight for the lead. The battle ended when Valles was forced to pull off with smoke emitting from his car on lap four.

Toccacelo was left with a big advantage over Basel's local hero Max Wissel, and the Italian appeared to be totally in control after Wissel's challenge came to a halt at Turn One on lap 13.

However, the race was put under yellows when James Walker spun at turn three in the Mercedes Arena and was unable to rejoin.

Walker had been running in fourth at the time of the mishap, having done a sterling job of passing cars from his seventh row starting position. With the field closed up, Toccacelo was soon under pressure.

The Fisichella Motorsport driver slowed exiting the tight right hand turn one on lap 22, but recovered to finish fourth ahead of Porto's Tristan Gommendy.

Rigon now leads the championship on 151 points, with PSV moving up to second, some 24 points adrift, as the series head to Zolder for round three on October 18/19.
