Plowman looks to future in USA
Formula 3 Euro Series racer Martin Plowman will attempt to make a single-seater career for himself in America, beginning with a campaign in the IndyCar feeder series, Indy Lights, next season
The 20-year-old Briton will join Panther Racing, who recently signed Dan Wheldon for their 2009 IndyCar programme and have also tested another Briton, Mike Conway, in recent weeks.
The switch will end Plowman's involvement with Volkswagen's young driver development scheme, but he is looking forward to the new challenge.
"It's a real honour and a fantastic opportunity to join Panther," said Plowman. "Moving up to Indy Lights will be a big step for me on many levels and I will have to face driving on an oval for the very first time.
"Everything will be new to me, from the car to all of the circuits and even the culture and way of life, as I will be moving to live in Indianapolis shortly."
VW's motorsport boss Kris Nissen was praised Plowman's efforts with RC Motorsport in F3 this season and would like to see the manufacturer's association with the driver re-ignited in the future.
"I'm sorry to see Martin leave the VW F3 program because I rate him very highly," Nissen said. "However, I'm also very excited for him as I know he has a great opportunity to progress his career in the United States.
"I will be watching carefully and if he gets the results that we all know he is capable of, I would hope that we will be working together again in the future."
Plowman will be replaced at RC Motorsport by Peter Elkmann for the remainder of the Euro Series season.
