IRL champ Hornish guests in Supercup

Indy Racing League champion Sam Hornish will make his tin-top debut this weekend at Indianapolis in the fly-away round of the Pirelli Porsche Supercup

The 22-year-old American, whose road racing experience comes from Toyota Atlantic and US Formula Ford 2000, will get his first experience of the 911 GT3R racer in the opening practice session tomorrow (Friday).

"It means a lot to be picked to do something like this," said Hornish. "It's just an opportunity to get some seat time and have more opportunities to run in different kind of cars."

"I'm not really expecting much, I just want to go out there and have fun. I'm just excited to go do it. I want to see what I'm capable of. I only have 40 minutes of practice before qualifying, so we'll see what happens. I'm sure the car is a little bit heavier. I don't know what the horsepower is like on these cars," he added.

Hornish hasn't raced competitively on a road course in two years, and his test run last week in Germany was cancelled because of the terrorist attacks in the United States.

Former Chrysler Viper racer and current Craftsman Truck series driver David Donohue will pilot the second VIP car.
