Rangers win Donington dash for cash
John Martin and Rangers bagged the €100,000 dash for cash to bring the curtain down on round three of Superleague Formula at Donington Park, the Aussie heading a 1-2 for British clubs as he was chased home by Tottenham Hotspurs' Craig Dolby
Pole position man Max Wissel led from the category's first-ever standing start, the FC Basel car leading Martin, Pedro Petiz (Sporting Lisbon) and Tristan Gommendy (Porto).
Gommendy, perhaps angry at losing two positions off the startline, made an ambitious lunge on Petiz at McLeans on lap two, but contact was made sending himself into a spin and Petiz through the gravel.
Wissel led by four tenths of a second starting lap three, but he struck gearbox problems which allowed Martin to storm past him through the Craner Curves. Dolby also passed the crestfallen German into the Esses later in the lap, but Wissel recovered his pace and was able to hold third position to the finish.
Antonio Pizzonia finished fourth for Corinthians, despite a trip through the gravel at McLeans while Gommendy and Petiz completed the six-car field.
