Pizzonia takes Formula Renault victory

The Antonio Pizzonia steamroller continued at Thruxton yesterday, after the diminutive Brazilian claimed his seventh Formula Renault Sport victory in nine races

The only time the Manor Motorsport lead driver saw another car was when team-mate Rob Austin briefly looked at a passing move into the first corner.

In the event he just ran wide, allowing Leighton Walker up to second.

Austin briefly put Walker under pressure around half-distance but settled for third.

Mark Boost finished fourth, having to work hard to beat the impressive Star Cup winner Tom Ferrier.

Pizzonia's eventual winning margin was an enormous 11 seconds.

Best of the Eurocup entrants was Casper Elgaard.

His High Class Racing team mate Nicolas Stelandre paid the price for not testing at the Hampshire venue, having to battle with Star Cup contenders Gavin McFayden and Jason Coffin.

He finished a disappointing 10th.

In a processional race the main excitement came on the final run to the flag.

Series rookie Jason Coffin slowed after damaging his car in a heavy altercation with the Club chicane kerbing, and only held off European runner Kasper Pedersen by 0.056 seconds as they crossed the line side-by-side.
