Formula Vauxhall driver escapes injury

Formula Vauxhall driver Daniel Scandian escaped injury after a massive crash during the support race at Brands Hatch on Monday

A collision with Vincent Apple's Paston Racing car on the entry to the Paddock Hill Bend sent the Brazilian's Team JLR car into a multiple barrel roll.

The impact split the car in half, with the engine coming away from the Van Diemen-built chassis.

The race was stopped, and the 18-year-old taken to hospital for checks. He was allowed to leave that evening.

'He's only bruised and battered,' said Team JLR boss Richard Dean.

'I spoke to him on the phone, and he managed to have a little laugh about it - although I think that's more nerves than anything else.

'I've never seen a car destroyed like that before. The engine was cracked in half and suspension wishbones were snapped. He was very lucky.'

The team hopes to repair the car in time for the next Formula Vauxhall round at Oulton Park on September 12.

Race results from Brands Hatch.
