BRDC welcomes Brands sale

The British Racing Drivers' Club, the landlord of the Silverstone circuit, has welcomed the sale by Interpublic of its four British racing circuits - Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park and Snetterton - to Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision firm

The sale was announced yesterday (Monday), and guarantees that motorsport will be the main consideration at each of the four venues.

"The sale secures Brands Hatch and three other circuits for British motorsport in the future and hopefully will stop the sale of the tracks to property developers," said Alex Hooton, chief executive of the BRDC.

Interpublic continues to hold the rights to the British Grand Prix and a lease at Silverstone to run the event.

"It is also important to note that the sale does not affect Interpublic's rights to stage the British Grand Prix and its long-term lease of the Silverstone circuit of which we are the landlord," added Hooton. "This means that Interpublic can now concentrate on the operation of Silverstone and the Grand Prix whilst the sale secures Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and Oulton Park - four of our historic and important race tracks for the motorsport industry.

"The deal in summary should be very welcome to British motorport and the industry. We wish Jonathan Palmer and his business associates success in their new venture."
