Tracy denied Cup debut

Reigning Champ Car World Series champion Paul Tracy has been denied permission to make his debut in the NASCAR Nextel Cup road race at Infineon Raceway (nee Sears Point), Sonoma, this weekend

Tracy, who has long been linked to a switch to stock cars, was lined up for an outing in one of NASCAR's two road races by renowned team chief Richard Childress. His team chief at Forsythe Racing, Gerald Forsythe, did not agree that it was a good idea, however.

"Richard Childress offered me a ride last month but Gerry and Kevin [Kalkhoven, OWRS ower] thought it would confuse people and they would think I was going to NASCAR," Tracy told Speedtv.com. "I think it would have been good for Champ Car."

With Tracy unavailable, Childress has named NASCAR Elite Division, Southwest Series driver Jim Inglebright to pilot his AOL Chevrolet for the event. Inglebright, 43, has eight wins in 96 starts in the lower-level series, including three straight victories at Infineon Raceway.

Meanwhile, road racing expert Boris Said, who qualified on pole position last year, has been entered in a third MB2/MBV Chevrolet.
