Stewart takes Duel Two

With the second heat positions deciding the even start order for the Daytona 500, behind the locked out front row, Stewart will start fourth, behind front-row starter Jimmie Johnson. Burton, who held on to second place at the chequered flag, will start sixth.

The story of the race was a major pile-up, caused when then second-placed Kevin Harvick tried to bump-draft leader Johnson through Turn 2 on lap 35. Johnson spun, but luckily without serious damage, while Harvick, Mark Martin, Rusty Wallace, Joe Nemechek and Dave Blaney all had their cars destroyed.

Johnson's team replaced the track bar and ironed out some body damage, but the driver himself was furious.

"We're running along and his head falls off his shoulders and he starts bump-drafting me in the centre of the turns," he said. "He just tore up six or seven good race cars. I hope Childress fires him, does something about him, or NASCAR does something about him, because this is ridiculous."

Harvick contended Johnson's car got loose and slowed and that he did not want to break momentum. "He checked up when I got to him," he said. "I couldn't get off him and just spun him out. It's not that you want to bump-draft in the middle of the corners. I just got to him, and he slowed down and got sideways."

Stewart admitted that having several front-runners out of the race made his job a little easier.

"I'm sure it would have been more difficult," he said. "I only had two cars to pass. Having Mark and the 29 [Harvick] and 48 [Johnson] in front of us, three strong cars got taken out. Sure, it would have been a lot harder to get up there."
