Nemechek steps into Carter/Haas drive

Joe Nemechek will quit Andy Petree Racing to join Carter/Haas Motorsport in next year's NASCAR Winston Cup. He will replace Jimmy Spencer who is switching to the team owned by Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates

The move means that long-time Chevrolet driver Nemechek will be behind the wheel of a Ford Taurus next season. He will be team mate to his friend Todd Bodine.

"I've got a great team mate to work with," said Nemechek, who won at Rockingham two weeks ago. "He's a great friend and we've been talking quite a bit this year and we're looking forward to working together. I think we're going to get in victory lane."

Team boss Travis Carter said: "I felt like we needed an experience guy. At the time Jimmy notified us he was leaving, Joe seemed to be available. He came and sought the job and, to me, that's a big positive step."

Nemechek becomes the second new driver to join the team since the end of last year. Bodine replaced retiring legend Darrell Waltrip at the start of this season.
