NASCAR Hands Out Penalties

NASCAR has stopped short of handing out bans for the 'revenge' incidents in last weekend's Sylvania 300

NASCAR Hands Out Penalties

Robby Gordon threw his helmet at Michael Waltrip after the former Champ Car racer accused Waltrip of putting him into the wall, and Kasey Kahne drove his battered Dodge into Kyle Busch under caution following a similar incident.

However, the guilty parties have only been fined and docked points and all will be eligible to race in this weekend's MBNA 400 at Dover

The worst affected was Gordon, who was docked 50 points and fined $35,000 for 'attempting to hit another competitor's car during a caution period, throwing his helmet at another competitor's car, and using improper language during a television interview during the race'.

He will be placed on probation for the rest of the season.

Waltrip has lost $10,000 and 25 points after an improper gesture during a television broadcast. Kahne was fined $25,000, docked 25 points and placed on probation for the remainder of the year after he rammed Busch.

In a separate penalty, Lance McGrew, crew chief for Brian Vickers Chevrolet, was fined $10,000 and placed on probation for the remainder of the year after trying to use an unapproved car body. Vickers has also lost 25 points for the incident.
